What's New at USNA Out?

11/30 & 12/16/2007 - Second USNA Out "National Meeting" held in Annapolis & San Francisco

Greer Pucket '75, Joe Soto '83

The second USNA Out "Nation Meeting" was held on Army-Navy Friday, 30 November 2007 in Memorial Hall. Because of the Joint Ethics Regulations, a request to use facilities in the Nimitz Library could not be accommodated. (If USNA Out were given permission to use government property, the Superintendent would also be obliged to provide similar services to all other groups of alumni within the same class. As many know, the USNA Alumni Association is being currently in litigation with Naval Academy Alumni Action Group (NAAAG), a faction of Alumni, in Maryland court. If USNA Out were provided with special access to government property, then NAAAG would also be allowed the same use of government property.)

Seven alumni were able to attend the a second "Left Coast Edition" of the national meeting held in San Francisco on Sunday, 16 December. Minutes of both these meetings will be posted here at usnaout.org soon.

6/18/2007 - USNA Out Member Leads Fight to Maintain Rights in Oregon

Jim Maguire '88

Jim(r) with partner

The mission of the U. S. Naval Academy includes providing graduates who in mind and character can assume the highest responsibilities of citizenship and government. USNA Out Member Jim Maguire (on right in photo to left) has been fulfilling this role in Oregon as he fights for equal rights.

Jim may soon have a big fight coming to keep two recently passed laws from being overturned. He was appointed to the City of Beaverton's Human Rights Advisory Commission in 2002 and elected Chair by his peers in 2003, staying Chair until he had to resign when he and his partner Josh bought a house and moved to Hillsboro, Oregon. He is now a founding member of the Human Rights Council of Washington County.

Jim says "The more who know about what we're fighting for in Oregon, the better. The Academy always said it wanted to train future leaders of men"

Jim Maguire tells in his quest for a true life in the Oregonian, read the online Oregonian Story

12/03/2005 - USNA Out does Army-Navy East & West

GO NAVY!

The East Coast Crowd

USNA Out members gathered with our SAGALA counterparts on both coasts to cheer on the Blue from the Brigade of Midshipmen as they took the lead 51-50 in the Army-Navy rivalry. Go Navy!

USNA Out members gathered at the home of Paula Neira '85 and her partner Mel for their third Army-Navy bash in Bowie, Maryland. Mel cooked up a tailgater's delight in their driveway, complete with burgers, hot dawgs, steak, and all the fixin's. Two West Point alums braved the "Go Navy" spirit that filled the Paula-and-Mel's home and added heat to the fire in the fireplace, only to see Navy drown the poor Black Knights with more touchdowns that we could shake a Labatt's Blue at. Thank you to our gracious hosts, Paula and Mel!

BEAT ARMY!

The Left Coast Crowd

On the left coast, USNA Out members met with some of our SAGALA whoopoo counterparts in a Noe Valley home.

At its semiannual meeting held on 2 December, 2004, in Annapolis, the board of trustees of the U. S. Naval Academy’s Alumni Association opted against certifying the proposed Castro District Chapter, concluding that it served a narrow constituency and that it violated the requirement that Alumni chapters be organized geographically.
